Myofunctional Therapy in patients with restrictive oral tissues: when and why?

In this lecture, various situations will be discussed in which oral soft tissue restrictions limit the mobility and functionality of the stomatognathic system.

Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy can contribute to both functional evaluation and treatment, but it is necessary to define when and how to act to achieve the best results.

Speech therapy, within its fields of action, includes Orofacial Motricity. One of the most requested areas is the one that deals with detecting, evaluating and treating orofacial dysfunctions through Myofunctional Therapy.

In this workshop we will work on interdisciplinary detection resources, myofunctional speech therapy evaluation and treatment, through the analysis of clinical cases of Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics.

Coordinator of the Master’s Degree in Orofacial Motricity (UManresa. UVic-UCC/ EPAP). Coordinator of the Master’s Degree in Orofacial Motricity (Universalus, Roma).

Professor of the Master’s Degree in Orofacial Motricity and deglutition (ESSAlcoitão, Portugal), of the Master’s Degree in Pediatric Dentistry (Faculty of Dentistry-UIC) and of numerous continuous and postgraduate training activities for speech therapists and dentists, developed in Spain, Andorra, Portugal, Italy, Argentina, Chile and Colombia.

Member of the Consell Tècnic de Formació Continua de Logopèdia. Catalan Council for Continuing Education of the Health Professions of Catalonia (CCFCPS. Generalitat de Catalunya).

Vice Dean of the College of Speech Language Therapist (2003-2015).

She currently continues to practice as a Speech Therapist at the Dr. Marcó Orthodontic Clinic for myofunctional speech therapy evaluation and diagnosis, and until 2022 she practiced also in private practice in the Sleep Medicine Unit at the Teknon Medical Center (Barcelona).

Vice President and Treasurer of the Spanish Association of Speech Therapy, Phoniatrics and Audiology and the Ibero-American Association of Speech Therapy (AELFA-IF). Member of various scientific societies (IAOM, AAMS, AEOII, SES, ABS, ABRAMO).

Speaker at national and international conferences and congresses.

Author of books, chapters of Speech Therapy and Dentistry books, interdisciplinary protocols, and numerous articles in the specialty.
